Over the last two years, I have lost a number of close family members. It is so hard to hear theists tell me they are in a better place.

Marie, this evening I'm going to a funeral service for a good friend mine who, at 56, died unexpectedly. And, I know I'm probably going to have to bite my tongue. The only thing I'm hoping is that since most who know me know I'm an atheist, they'll spare me the patronizing "He's with Jesus" crap.

The next time someone says, "They're in a better place," tell 'em, "They're in my memory ... and that's as good a place as they need to be."

Just a thought.
