We do see some religious communities providing for their own, as a healthy, caring extended family would (and as Frankie Dapper said, that could justify tax exemption on those assets/money); however, we see MANY others instead fleecing their members while the pastors enjoy luxurious mansions and private jets. (And the Roman church has had many centuries of accumulating vast wealth, all founded on people's fear of hell.)

yes indeed...in high school i did a poem with Marx in mind

Religion is the opiate of the masses

More valued than life

vainglorious strife

a game in which mediocrity passes

to pass on these lies

husband and wife

to mold your children's lives

potential stars

potential asses

....and i forget the rest

True enough ... he WAS the one who was talkin' about "the opiate of the people," wasn't he?

Marx would say junkies.

Question is: is it more about "dependents" or "junkies?"

thus and finally a justification for their tax exempt status
