Ruth, "one god further" suggested to me the quip about monotheists already rejecting n-1 false gods, atheists going one god further. Maybe that's preaching to the converted.

I saw a Portuguese-subtitled version where the translator interpreted "We go one god further" as "Nós temos um deus menos", "We have one fewer god", because he thought the literal meaning was ambiguous.

Rich Wilson, commenting at Friendly Atheist, pointed out that the ad pulls people in through cold reading: everyone will consider themselves "curious", "inquisitive", "seeking knowledge", "freethinkers", "innovators". You can tack on any word you like at the end, whether or not it's actually consistent with those attributes. One version on YouTube promotes a type of Islam! It changes the commercial to monochrome, inserts a few video scenes, and at the end promotes the imam's book (The Delusion of Atheism) and website.

We had a bit of good discussion of our own in February on another video page, whose copy of the video was taken down by YouTube for a copyright claim. This page is as good as any a place to continue.

I liked everything but the ending - One God further? Why make it sound like religion and repeat that meme?

I would gladly spend some bucks to insure that this commercial APPEARED during a Super Bowl!
