A lot of atheists are liable to react negatively to the concept of doctrine, too. We've seen too much dogmatism and doctrine.
The title on this video is a bit off, you're right. Atheism is a lack of theology or doctrine, in my opinion.
The doctrine of atheism is like the color of something that wasn't painted.
Atheist doctrine is ridiculously simple: we do not believe in any form of god
But doctrines describe what people believe, not what they don't believe.
I believe in God as a perception of human minds, a poetic metaphor, the Elephant in the Room.
Atheist doctrine is ridiculously simple: we do not believe in any form of god ... or alternatively, that there is insufficient evidence to support belief in any form of god. That's it. Anything above that leaves the realm of atheism and begins to encroach upon issues better suited to humanism or other such systems.
Thanks for the comments.
I don't think atheism can have a doctrine per se. There is no exactly a consensus about what the word means. We don't have a special word for people who don't believe in Santa Claus...
I think the word relates the absence of theology, or a lack of belief in one. I used to describe myself as an agnostic, but now I'm not so sure :)
well done. But what's the doctrine of atheism?
