When should an omnipotent, omniscient, benevolent Being be expected to do anything god-like? Here's our take on the subject.
Put simply, Epicurus' questions with some nice visuals, courtesy of The Thinking Atheist.

Thanks! It's hard to believe I missed signing up for an atheist group!
Debra, I have a feeling that James Barrie was making a point that faries and gods are the same thing; man-made fictional characters. ALL of them. Thus, if we stop believing in them, they will fade away, no matter whether we call them gods, faries, witches, wizards, unicornsor any other magical characters.
Some fantasy writers that I enjoy are a lot more talented and consistent than the Levite priests who wrote the OT. And they are HONEST; they admit that they are writing fiction, and they don't threaten their fans with terrible punishments if they don't believe the stores they write.
The Levites wrote their crap for political purposes...power over a bunch of ignorant Bronze Age nomads. There is some evidence that the Levites were not even semitic; they moved in and took over the Hebrew tribes, and insisted that their man-made "god" must be obeyed at all costs, even if "he" demands that one tribal leader must sacrifice his son to prove his loyalty. If I were the father in that tale, I would have extended my middle finger, packed up my family, and left.
A man may, in many cases, be no better than his tools, this is probably true, however,"The Thinking Atheist", Mr. Andrews, is an very exceptional artist, regardless, while, you, Loren, have an acute sense for evaluationing talent, That, could be the most real and often times unappreciated talent of them all. My congratulations and again ,... many thank's. Some might say that I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about, but,... I betcha I do !
William, have to tell you: I didn't create this video, nor any that I post here. This work is from Seth Andrews, also known as The Thinking Atheist, who has the means and the chops to do this brand of work and do it way better than I ever could.Me? I just admire 'em and occasionally post 'em!
Hey Loren,.. your vids r great,..man sake's alive ! That 1st one was done so well. It made me feel like a rank amateur, which is what I am now. The "olden days"are no match for modern video technology. That entire presentation was done with no voice-over at all,... very cool. It didn't need it ! I will comment some more once I can absorb some more for they are truly worthwhile. Thank you, there is a heck of a lot there and it's in my area of amusing entertainment, for sure !
Debra, I don't think gods are truly immortal; like Tinkerbelle, they die when everybody stops believing in them. (I have wished for decades that something like that would happen during my lifetime, but I've given up hope.)
Loren, that's a COOL video! Thanks for posting it.
I've always wondered why xians insist that their imaginary friend's name is "God." That's a job description, not a proper noun, and it shouldn't be capitalized. Even the OT hints that YHWH is one of many gods. And he's not a very effective one; it seems he always needs to get his followers to do his dirty work for him.
OR, as Harlan Ellison implied in his novella "The Death Bird," this solar system is an asylum for insane gods, and Earth is YHWH's Occupational Therapy project. Not very talented, is he? (Not Ellison, he's Amazing!)
Brandi, I asked nicely. Now I'm telling you. Take this conversation private or the whole thing goes POOF. A|N Mail exists for a reason - USE IT.
Guys, come on ... this is all very nice, but it has next to nothing to do with the video! If you want to talk about Epicurus, fine, but let's take the discussions about JWs and other stuff elsewhere, okay?
Deb, if I may be very honest, u can really type fast ! honest ! Anyway,I do research because I am writing a novel also. It's been a hobby of mine since I decided to be atheist. I study religious practices, so, although I was born into the Methodist religion, I have great respect for it and other religious philosophies , not to mention the people without whom's core belief's I would not be who I am today. I like myself, not because of my family or the community's opinion of me, for they really had very little hope for me , or my selfish(to them) dreams which were too large for their small minds and stupid unsure directions. I reached my ambitions in almost every phase of my life, which I deem a being fantastic. That doesn't mean that I could find anyone within a thousand miles would,..... i am to tiredvti o write any more,.. everythng is ok. your smart and free ,... that's what count's . i hope immay get back, falling aslep K? BYE NOW wgrant
