So, this morning, I was at my local coffee shop as I am most weekdays between bus runs. I do the editing on my husband's books so I had my laptop with me. My wallpaper is a picture I found online sometime back of a double helix with the word atheist extending from it.
Every Tuesday, a church group meets for socializing at this coffee shop from the local Nazarene Church. I usually just stick in headphones with music so their imbicilic ramblings don't drive me insane. I had yet to do this, having just booted up my system. I have had this wallpaper for quite a while and actually put it on there because of said group and their chatter. Anyway, no one had ever said anything about it previously. Today there were a couple of new people there. I was sitting there with my back to them and one of the women comes over and asks me what the double helix meant to me combined with the atheist label because she had a doctorate in biology and used the double helix to signify the complexity of god...ummmm...I am ashamed to say that this caught me off guard and all I could say was science.... afterwards it occurred to me that a good response would have been "that science can overcome any mythology". Any other good responses?

Hi, Joan!  Yes, it has been quite a while, hasn't it.  I go in so many directions that it can be a while before I make it back to a place, lol.  I am doing well.  The above mentioned coffee shop has, unfortunately, closed so I no longer have that particular hangout.  Of course, that also means that I don't have to listen to the religious group prattle on while gritting my teeth, lol.  Still, my husband and I miss the place and its owners.  I am still driving a school bus and living off grid on the mountain here in Benewah County, ID.  I attempted a stint as a charter bus driver a couple months ago but decided those big motor coaches were not for me.  They triggered my anxiety issues far too much and there was too much emphasis on being a nondescript employee cut from the same cookie-cutter as the other employees.  Bleck.  So, I went back to driving school buses with a fresh perspective.  Still surrounded by believers but I can live with that.  How are you, Joan?

A double helix screen saver and someone asks what it means?

Oh I wish a theist would ask ! ! !

“With a powerful-enough telescope you will see double helixes in the sky and with a powerful-enough microscope you will see double helixes in your DNA.”

A postscript.

Electric charges move—i.e., electric currents flow—in light-year-long double helices in space and in sub-microscopic-double helices in our DNA

Though correlation is not yet empirically proven, in an electric universe it seems appropriate.
